Lil’ Bits Of Tips

I’ll be adding Lil’ Tips here and there as I think of them – most help save money and some will just make things easier!

Send this wish to everyone…..
Great life and happiness every day!

Put too much salt in your pot of soup? Just clean and quarter potatoes – they will absorb some of the salt. Fish them out in about 15 minutes, unless you pealed them and they would add something to the soup.

An easy and inexpensive way to clean candles, even very fancy ones, is to use a bit of rubbing alcohol on a cloth, cotton pad or a good paper towel like Viva and clean it! It doesn’t discolor or leave an odor. Wait a few minutes to allow all the alcohol to evaporate before lighting.

Clean blackened glass the same way as the candles if you are using an oil lamp or covered candle dish.

Clean your refrigerator coils every 3 to 4 months – more often if you have shedding animals! Pull the fridge away from the wall after unplugging it. Take off the backing and give it a good vacuuming around the coils and motor. It will “live” much longer!

Clean out the lint trap after every dryer load so it’s ready to go – it will run more efficiently.

Dry whatever you can by either hanging outside or on hangers. This will also extend the life of your clothes by months or years AND keep them looking newer longer!

Throw coins you get as change in a jar that isn’t easily seen, like on the floor next to your desk and out of line of sight. Do a separate jug for pennies. DO NOT take to a coin counter machine when it’s full – they keep a percentage! Start a savings account with a bank that has a coin counter and always deposit it in there. (DON’T look at the balance if that would make it too tempting to use!)

Switch your light bulbs to compact fluorescent light bulbs. They last much longer than traditional bulbs, and use a lot less energy. They help houseplants grow. AND…… they don’t throw as much heat in the summer! (Easy Bake Ovens use a 60 watt bulb to cook food – raised eyebrow!)

Save money by using a space heater in the main-use room during the winter and lowering your thermostat to 55 degrees minimum.

To avoid freezing pipes during the winter – allow the water to dribble through the faucet and open any cabinet doors that enclose water pipes.

Use a shop light or dip stick heater under your car’s hood overnight to keep it warm enough to start easily all winter! (Use indoor/outdoor fixtures and extension cords!)
